CHRISTMAS MOVIES TO WATCH ON NETFLIX SOUTH AFRICA
Most of these movies are 2017/2018 because I wanted to introduce you guys to some new movies that you haven't already watched 101 times (Now that there's anything wrong with that #classics). I've divided them into Netflix Originals, Other Movies On Netflix and read all the way to the end to find out my all-time favorite Christmas movie!
CHRISTMAS NETFLIX ORIGINALS
CHRISTMAS INHERITANCE (2017)
Before ambitious heiress Ellen Langford can inherit her
father's business, she must deliver a special Christmas card to her dad's
former partner in Snow Falls. When a snowstorm strands her at the town inn, she
discovers the true gift of Christmas. (Source)
I recently watched this and, like most Christmas movies, it's so cute! It follows the typical movie formula of a rich kid having to live like a normal person and learning lessons in love and humanity along the way. Super duper predictable but also super duper cute and enjoyable!
THE HOLIDAY CALENDAR (2018)
A photographer inherits an antique Advent calendar that
seems to predict her future -- including a budding romance. (Source)
Now this is a good one! A bit of a cheesy romance but then again that's what the holidays are all about. This is probably my favorite of all the Netflix original Christmas movies. I'm a sucker for advent calendars - I love the feeling of having something (A surprise) to look forward to everyday leading up to Christmas. This movie is good for hopeless romantics, struggling artists, and everyone else alike.
THE PRINCESS SWITCH (2018)
One week before Christmas, a duchess switches places with an
ordinary woman from Chicago, who looks exactly like her, and they each fall in
love with each other's beaus. (Source)
I can't be the only one that got crazy excited to see Vanessa Hudgens in a new movie?! Gabriella is baaaaack woohoo! The princess switch follows the typical Prince and the Pauper story line with a romantic twist. If you're in the need of a cheesy rom-com fix, this is the movie you've been waiting for. Cuteness overload man! And you might learn some life lessons on the way.
A CHRISTMAS PRINCE (2017)
Christmas comes early for an aspiring young journalist when
she's sent abroad to get the scoop on a dashing prince who's poised to be king. (Source)
I think most girls still have that fantasy of falling in love with a prince and that's why these kinds of movies won't go away anytime soon - let's keep the dream alive, one day ladies! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and couldn't wait for the next one (Which is also out on Netflix btw! Look out for A Christmas Prince: Royal Wedding on Netflix). What's even better is the prince is très cute!
OTHER CHRISTMAS MOVIES ON NETFLIX
These aren't Netflix originals but can also be found on the Netflix. I haven't watched most of them so I'll just leave you with a short summary.
48 CHRISTMAS WISHES (2017)
When a small town's letters to Santa accidentally go up in
smoke, two elves venture out of the North Pole to retrieve every missing wish. (Source)
THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES (2018)
Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce hatch a scheme to capture
Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces
with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before
it's too late. (Source)
CHRISTMAS WITH A VIEW (2018)
A ski resort is buzzing when a celebrity chef is named the
new head chef. Clara isn't excited about her new boss, but with their paths
constantly crossing, Clara realises that they have more in common than they
first thought. (Source)
CHRISTMAS WEDDING PLANNER (2017)
A wedding planner is in the midst of planning her cousin's
lavish and exclusive wedding when a devilishly handsome private investigator
turns her world upside down. (Source)
My All-Time Christmas Favorite
This is my all-time favorite Christmas movie and one I've watched every Christmas for the past 15 years. It also needs no introduction since I'm sure everyone else has watched it hundreds of times! I can still remember the first time I watched it on SABC 2.
Elf (2003)
Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results. (Source)
Now this one's a classic and doesn't require any description really. And what's great is that even if you don't own the movie, it's streaming on Netflix.
I don't want to mention every single classic since most of us have already watched time and the purpose of this guide is to introduce you to movies you haven't already watched. Also, Netflix doesn't have most of them (Think Home Alone) but if you can you should definitely rewatch those classics - all to keep Christmas tradition!
What's your favorite Christmas movie of all time? Did I miss out on any good Christmas movies on Netflix? Let me know in the comments!
