This weekend I had the pleasure of staying at the Fairway Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort at the Randpark Golf Course in Johannesburg. This hidden gem comes as a complete surprise as it's tucked away in the residential suburb of Randpark Ridge. It's a piece of luxury and escape in a peaceful area.
MY VERDICT: PERFECT STAYCATION "GETAWAY" FOR COUPLES
The luxurious The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort is located on the Randpark Golf Course in Johannesburg. It offers a lounge terrace overlooking the golf course and an outdoor pool with a wooden sundeck. The stylish rooms at The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort have private patios and cozy seating areas. The modern bathroom features under-floor heating, and separate bathtub and shower.
The award winning Balata Restaurant offers gourmet dishes, décor in bright colors and modern fireplaces. It is renowned for its breakfasts and Sunday buffet lunches. Bar Verve features a large wine cellar.
Guests can relax in the spa, where they can schedule a massage or a session at the nail bar.
The hotel is located just 1.2 mi from Cresta Shopping Center and 6.8 mi from the shopping hubs of Sandton and Rosebank. Lanseria International Airport is 15 mi from the property, while O.R. Tambo International Airport is 30 mi away.
It's actually my first time staying at a golf resort and I was completely blown away by the beauty of the green, lush surroundings once I entered the resort. I stayed in a luxury room which overlooks the golf course.
ROOM
The Fairway Hotel Spa and Golf Resort has 62 hotel rooms and 14 Villas. The en-suite hotel rooms include 35 luxury rooms, 16 premier rooms, 1 paraplegic room, 2 Suites and 8 leisure rooms ideal for families. The Villas consists of 7 double storey Golf Villas with 4 en-site bedrooms, 6 double storey Garden Villas with 4 en-site bedrooms and 1 single storey Garden Villas with 2 en-site bedrooms, bringing the total number of rooms to 116.
As mentioned, I stayed in the luxury room. The room was quite big at 36m2 which gives enough room for 2 people to comfortably live in the space. The king-size bed was extra comfy and I definitely had a good night's sleep.
The room had a TV and DSTV, which I enjoyed because being so used to Netflix it felt nice to catch up on what's on MNET.
I absolutely loved the modern bathroom and enjoyed a bath in the tub before bed. There was a sachet of bath essence as well as bath oil which were complimentary and just completed the bath experience.
AMENITIES
As the name suggests, the top amenities the hotel offers include its spa and the adjoining golf course.
Other than that, I really loved the pool area and lounge terrace overlooking the golf course. The pool has a little bridge running over it and little mini pools overlooking the main pool. It's perfect for your Instagram pics as well as a perfect relaxing touch to your stay. Throughout my stay, the pool area was quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend watching the sunset from the lounge terrace overlooking the golf course. It's an absolutely beautiful way to experience the sunset.
The hotel also has a gym and multiple bars as well as the main restaurant, Balata.
FOOD
The award winning Balata Restaurant offers gourmet dishes, décor in bright colors and modern fireplaces. It is renowned for its breakfasts and Sunday buffet lunches. Bar Verve features a large wine cellar.
I enjoyed a buffet breakfast at the Balata restaurant. It had a good selection of options for both a warm and cold breakfast and the staff was really lovely and helpful. I enjoyed indulging in 2 of my favourite breakfast options, poached eggs and lots of salmon. They also were able to offer me Soy Milk as a dairy alternative in my coffee (Being lactose intolerant) and I always appreciate places that do that.
GOLF COURSE
For this particular hotel, the golf course definitely deserves its own section. I've never played golf in my life and only been on a golf course once or twice before but being at Fairway Hotel and literally living on the golf course, made me find a new appreciation for it.
The Randpark Golf Course is absolutely stunning and feels like a piece of green and nature in the middle of suburban Randburg. The course is well-kept and has a restaurant, Terrace Bar, on-site that I enjoyed a few drinks at and loved the vibe.
I did some shopping at the Golf Shop for some appropriate attire and headed to the Driving Range to practice my (lack of) skills. For a first-timer, I surprised myself! I'll definitely be back to practice some more, and who knows maybe I found a new hobby.
