There’s always something happening at the 5-star Turbine Boutique Hotel and Spa… and right now, also at Thesen Islands.
“We’re proud to celebrate our island's achievements with the announcement that Thesen Islands Marina and Thesen Harbour Town Marina have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag eco-label - two of only four South African marinas to be recognised in this way”, says the Turbine Boutique Hotel’s General Manager, Kate Christie, “and two of our celebrated local beaches, Brenton-on-Sea and Buffalo Bay have retained their Blue Flag status”.
The iconic Blue Flag is a globally recognised voluntary eco-label given to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators that meet strict environmental requirements. Implemented by the Wildlife Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) it has been operational in RSA since 2001. Qualifying for a Blue Flag provides access to improved tourism facilities, enhanced management of coastal ecosystems, capacity building of coastal municipalities and general increased awareness.
Looking ahead to summer - “Join us in promoting sustainability and the beauty of The Turbine Hotel and Spa’s unique surroundings“, says Christie, extending an invitation to all to embrace ‘Blue Flag’ beachside bliss.
One of the best ways to spend a summer's day in the eco-friendly haven of Knysna is unquestionably on the beach - lazing in the soft white sand, frolicking in the waves, playing a game of beach volleyball or building sand castles. Located in the Goukamma Nature Reserve is the closest beach to Knysna the Blue Flag Buffalo Bay Beach. Part of a 14km stretch of sand it is bordered by towering sand dunes and lush coastal fynbos.
The Turbine Hotel Boutique Hotel and Spa – a standout when it comes to Knysna accommodation - comprises 6 luxury and 17 standard rooms, a honeymoon suite and two self-contained suites adjacent to the hotel, conference facilities, a Spa, the 90-seater Island Café and the Gastro Pub.
It regularly runs a number of events at the Island Café and Gastro Pub – from fabulous, themed evenings and ‘Happy Hour’ on Fridays to monthly wine and food pairing evenings. Upcoming on Thursday, 31 October at 8:30 pm is a Zandvliet Wine Estate Food and Wine Pairing at R560 per person – booking is essential.
