In the heart of Johannesburg, nestled on the picturesque Westcliff hillside, a cherished tradition returns with a luxurious twist. The Four Seasons Hotel, The Westcliff, invites you to indulge in the timeless delight of Afternoon Tea, reimagined to reflect the sophistication and beauty of its stunning surroundings.
I had the pleasure of attending the media launch in December, and I can confidently say this is not just tea – it’s an experience for the senses.
A Culinary Journey of Flavour and Finesse
The Afternoon Tea menu is a carefully curated selection of both sweet and savoury delicacies, each crafted to perfection. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a glass of Steenberg 1682 Brut Rosé – a sparkling MCC that perfectly complements the experience with its notes of raspberry jelly, wild strawberry, and toasted brioche. You can also enjoy other delicious drinks off of their extensive menu.
The Savoury Selection
The savoury treats are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Expect innovative bites like:
Smoked Trout Poke with fried sushi rice, lemon gel, and seaweed crisp
Saffron Egg Sandwich with pickled cucumber, chive, and caviar
Chicken Potato Dhaltjie with coriander gel and crispy onions
Caprese Brioche with burrata, smoked tomato relish, and heirloom tomato
Beetroot Phyllo Tartlet with beetroot salsa and mustard crème
For vegetarian guests, the alternative menu is equally exquisite. Highlights include:
Bobotie Mushroom Tartare with housemade vetkoek and raisin gel
Aubergine Potato Dhaltjie with coriander dressing and crispy onions
Roasted Pepper Poke served with fried sushi rice and lemon gel
Sweet Endings
The dessert selection is a symphony of textures and flavours:
Strawberry Choux – vanilla crème patisserie, confit strawberry, and whipped ganache
Raspberry Tartelette – fresh raspberries, mint, and crème leger
Hazelnut & Chocolate Finger – dark chocolate sponge and hazelnut praline
Cinnamon Flan Pâtissier – a baked custard tart steeped in vanilla
Pistachio Entremet with a glossy mirror glaze
Vegetarian options feature delights like Lemon & Lavender Posset and Blueberry Choux.
Tea Fit for Royalty
Guests can choose from an impressive selection of loose-leaf teas curated by Nigiro Tea. Options range from the classic Four Seasons Exclusive Black Tea to unique blends like Marula Strawberry Rooibos and Sakura Butterfly Green.
